The Sussex County Family Success Center at Project Self-Sufficiency is a community of local parent leaders and volunteers working together to support adults, teens and children.
Family Fun Nights
Wednesdays, July 10th - August 14th, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Project Vacation,
July 15th - 19th, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Girls for a Change Summer Camp,
July 22nd - 26th, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Parents help other parents to achieve the goals they set for themselves and for their families. Core services include:
- Access to child, maternal and family services;
- Development of Family Success Plans which address strengths and incorporate goals to increase family stability;
- Economic self-sufficiency, employment-related services, and income-security services;
- Life skills and support groups;
- Parenting classes;
- Fun family activities;
- Legal assistance and education;
- Home visitation.

Family Fun Night
Families play games, enjoy fun family movies, make craft projects and more! Refreshments provided.
Family Story Time
Families are invited to enjoy a story and an art project at Family Story Time. Separate readings for smaller children; dinner is served.
Project Vacation
Children ages 5 - 10 "tour" a unique area of the world during the annual week-long Project Vacation. Participants learn about the history, geography, indigenous people, and cuisine from a different location each summer. Camp activities include stories, crafts, dance and games which highlight the region.
Father-Daughter Dances and Family Square Dances
Parents and young children gather at local schools to dance, play games and enjoy refreshments.
Sister-to-Sister Prom Shop
Teen girls are invited to select a prom dress and accessories from our collection of new and gently-used items. Prom Shop is open each spring; donations are accepted from January - April.
Family Expo
Parents and children gather to learn about household safety, parenting, fire safety, health and wellness and other topics at the annual Family Expo which is offered each April. Games, break-out sessions, keynote speakers, dinner and more.
Thanksgiving Food Baskets
Complete Thanksgiving dinners are collected and distributed to hundreds of families each November.
Back-to-School Fair
Parents and children learn how to successfully navigate the school year at the annual Back-to-School Fair, with information sessions about school bus safety, bullying, first aid, interacting with school officials, and more. Free haircuts, backpacks and school supplies.
Holiday Toy Shop
Family Success Center Advisory Board members coordinate the collection of thousands of gifts for infants, children and teens. The Holiday Toy Shop is offered to income-eligible families each December.
Becoming You Series
Guest speakers discuss their duties and offer advice about education and training for specific career paths at the monthly Becoming You forums. Summer camp is open to middle school girls.
Legal Education
Free informational seminars are scheduled frequently at Project Self-Sufficiency. Topics include, Family Law, Bankruptcy, Elder Law, Wills & Estates, Expungement, Landlord/Tenant Issues, and Consumer Law.
Project Self-Sufficiency is grateful to the Family Success Center Parent Advisory Board for their assistance in coordinating fun activities for families in Newton, as well as at locations in Hopatcong and Sussex-Wantage.
